True Reformers Bank – Richmond, Virginia Vintage Historic Tee
The True Reformers Bank in Richmond, Virginia holds an extraordinary place in Black American history. Founded in 1888 by Reverend William Washington Browne, the bank became the first chartered bank in the United States owned and operated by Black Americans. It grew out of the Grand Fountain of the United Order of True Reformers, a fraternal organization that encouraged financial independence and mutual support among foundational Black Americans during the difficult years after Reconstruction. The bank helped families save money, build businesses, and purchase property at a time when many traditional financial institutions refused to serve Black communities. Though the bank eventually closed in the early 1900s, its legacy remains a powerful symbol of Black American entrepreneurship and economic self-determination.
This tee carries that story forward in the most comfortable way possible. It’s the kind of soft, easygoing shirt you can throw on for lounging around the house, heading out for the day, grabbing coffee, meeting friends, or wearing on a relaxed night out. Comfortable, stylish, and quietly meaningful, it’s the type of tee that quickly becomes a go-to favorite.
Printed on a soft-style cotton shirt, the vintage-inspired graphic gives it a timeless feel — almost like a classic financial district relic from another era. Lightweight and breathable with a clean everyday fit, it pairs easily with jeans, jackets, or casual wear while keeping a piece of real Black American history close.
